2008 Iowa Angus Princess

Applications are now being accepted for the girls who want to serve as Iowa Angus Princess in 2008.

These juniors represented Iowa at the 2007 LEAD (Leaders Engaged in Angus Development) Conference, August 2-5 in Athens, Ga. Nearly 170 youth and advisors from 34 states and Canada attended the conference, "Life's a Peach...So Eat It Up" where they increased their beef industry knowledge and enhanced their leadership skills.

Katie Jensen, North English, IA and Lauren Schroeder, Clarence, IA competed for Iowa in the 2007 National Showmanship contest. Katie Jensen finished in the top 15 in the nation. She received a pair of Andis Clippers. Congratulations Katie and Lauren.
 
These young men were the American Angus Auxiliary's male scholarship winners at the 2007 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS), July 1-7 in Tulsa, Okla. The recent high school graduates received scholarships ranging from $850 to $1,200. H C A Steer 605 won grand champion steer at the 2007 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS), July 1-7 in Tulsa, Okla. Leo Kruse, Rudd, Iowa, owns the March 2006 son of Jsar Mr Doctor 035ZFM.  Randy Perry, Prather, Calif., evaluated the steers.

Glen Mommsen, De Witt, Iowa, left, and Cullen Walser, Minnesota Lake, Minn., right, claimed grand champion and reserve grand champion carcass steers respectively, in the 2007 Carcass Steer Contest at the National Junior Angus Show, July 1-7 in Tulsa, Okla. Mommsen's 1,239 pound steer sired by ONeills Expedition graded high choice with a 2.09 yield grade, and Walser's 1,119 pound steer sired by TC Foreman 016 had a 3.00 yield grade with a quality grade of low prime.

The 2008 National Jr. Angus Show will be hosted by Iowa;
we need a lot of juniors and Adults to help get things organized.
Every Angus member is asked to help serve on a committee.

The committees are as follows:

Adult & Jr Social
Planning an evening for the adult and juniors to get together.

Decorating

Give showring, barns, hotel lobby & meeting rooms an
attractive appearance featuring a particular theme or logo;
prepare photo backdrop according to AAA guidelines.

Education

Help with all contest, give suggestions for judges to James Fisher. Get gifts for all judges.

Food & Meals

Work with hospitality and AAA Junior Activities Department to coordinate all planned meals & snacks, as well as food and beverage concessions.

Fundraising

Organize all fundraisers

Gifts

Responsible for all exhibitor gifts, class winner awards and Judge’s gifts

Grounds

Responsible for maintaining ground activities
Hospitality
Plan a hospitality area & games activities for younger
children. Work with grounds crew on greeting guest and
providing them information.

Opening Ceremony

Make necessary plans for introducing VIP’s and officially
welcoming exhibitors and spectators at the beginning of
the show.

Promotion/Program

Advertising for the show and preparing the program

Queens

Prepare a social event for all queens in every state.

Trade Show

Responsible for inviting different vendors to set up during the show.

Welcoming

To welcome and greet all exhibitors upon arrival. Work
with the grounds committee to direct to assigned stalls.
